Making Vocabulary Fun!

Each day, students are introduced to a "Buzz Word". We identify the definition, synonyms/examples, antonyms/non-examples, make personal connections, and create a visual representation. This helps the word "stick" in a student's mind. All "Buzz Words" are posted around the room along with a synonym which serves as a resource to help students use the words throughout the year.

In order to motivate students, classes participate in bi-monthly vocabulary challenges. Each time a student correctly uses a "Buzz Word" in their speaking or writing, they earn a sticker for their table. At the end of the challenge, the students from the winning table vote on a reward. It's amazing how competitive this challenge can get!

Every Friday, we will be playing a vocabulary game to help us review and practice our words from the week. Last week, we played KAHOOT using our Chromebooks. The students LOVED it...just look at the focus on their faces!

"Buzz Words" from each week will be posted on our Weekly News!
